2001 exhibitions

Expo Centre Sharjah pioneered the exhibition industry in the Gulf. Established in 1977, it was the only venue to host exhibitions that provided regional industry a platform to showcase their products, bring in international traders and boost investment to the region.

In 1991, Expo Centre was taken over by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry as its official exhibition organisation. With this move, the exhibition centre widened its horizons to match the growing market economies by introducing specialised trade fairs and solo-country fairs.

It has introduced some of the most popular events to the Middle East that are awaited by industry watchers to enter this lucrative market. It plays an important role in supporting business in the region as it serves as an ideal entry point for new products eyeing the Middle East and Gulf markets. Thus, it directly and indirectly affects the economic, business and industrial activities in the region.

Expo Centre is sprawled over 88,000 square metres, with 13,000 square metres of covered space and a car park of 1,500 vehicles. It has a sophisticated conference hall, state-of-the-art communications system and a permanent exhibition space for regional manufacturers to display their products.

Facilities
Exhibition halls
The air-conditioned exhibition halls cover 13,000 sq.metres space, with Hall 1, 3 & 4 admeasuring 2,000 sq. metres each while Hall 2 is 4,750 sq.mts and Hall 5 is 2,500 sq.mts. The uncovered area is stretched over 10,000 sq.mts., ideal for static or moving open-air displays. The covered area of three high-domed pillar-free halls incorporates all the exhibition venue features such as general illumination, air-conditioning, sound system, water and compresssed air, electrical cabling, safety etc. to match the British standards in terms of show platform.

Conference facilities
Instead of having one all-purpose exhibition hall, Expo Centre conference facilities are divided into distinct need based units. The main conference hall can seat upto 450 people and has ultra-modern sound, lighting and audio-visual facilities.

Permanent exhibition of national industries
On the Expo Centre premises, this 2,500 sq.mts exhibition is a convenient showcase for regional and international visitors to get a glimpse of products made in Sharjah. The exhibition displays products of 128 national firms and the goods range from foodstuff, garments, jewellery, paints, computers, cement to engineering equipment.

New premises
In line with the comprehensive development encompassing the U.A.E. in general and Sharjah, in particular, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved the final design of the Sharjah International Trade Centre. The 56-storeyed building is an impressive design in architectural marvel and will be built over 65,000 square metres. The new high-rise will house the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Expo Centre Sharjah, conference halls, commercial representative offices, etc.
